There are whereabouts in America that will be forever stained as part of our most haunted locations.
There are blood-stained spectral places permanently imprinted by notorious and horrific murders that have occurred in their past. They keep their restless phantoms alive with secrets that we will never know. We've assembled this collection of seven of the most haunted bloody murder scenes found in haunted America.
Villisca Axe Murder House in Villisca, Iowa
Haunted Villisca Axe Murder House
The Villisca Axe Murder House in Iowa was the site of one of America’s unsolved murder scenes in June of 1912. The horrific murder scene revealed the eight bodies of people bludgeoned to death inside the Moore residence.
There’s so much inexplicable paranormal activity here that it sends chills down the spines of visitors who come to experience this place. Consistent reports of children whispering, objects moving and falling on their own, and slamming doors as visitors make their way through the house.
Clutter House in Holcomb, Kansas
A horrific crime scene where an entire family were shot to death has led to this home being one of the most haunted in history. Often compared to the Amityville Horror home in the USA's heartland, this property is allegedly haunted by Nancy Clutter, the family's teenage daughter. People say she wanders the halls, unable to leave.
Today it sits as a private residence, so be sure to respect the property owners with no trespassing.
Amityville House in Amityville, New York
Undoubtedly the country’s most infamous haunted house, the Amityville House has been the subject of numerous books, Hollywood films, and documentaries. The intensive documented hauntings were experienced by the Lutz family, who moved here right after the well-known DeFeo murders in this sleepy Long Island NY town. Ronald J. Defeo, a 23-year-old, slaughtered his parents and four siblings as they slept in this modest five-bedroom house. The hauntings that followed were captured in the iconic horror film, Amityville Horror.
Today, this house sits as a private residence, so be respectful of the property and its owners with no trespassing.
Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast in Fall River, Massachusetts
Haunted Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast
Lizzie Borden took an ax….and her house -- now a bed-and-breakfast -- is still haunted. It may never be known if it was indeed Lizzie who ax murdered her family in the house or not. Regardless of who did it, the house remains haunted.
This place is off the charts in the Richter scale of the haunted! Covers are ripped from the bed of sleeping guests; objects are moved about the house; spectral children laugh and play; full-bodied apparitions appear of men, women, and children; guests exhibit unaccounted-for emotions of grief or aggression.
Dakota Building in New York City, New York
The spirit of rock icon John Lennon has been reported to have appeared at the majestic Dakota Building where he was gunned down. The most famous story of Lennon’s ghost appearing at the Dakota was told by Yoko Ono, his own wife. As the story goes, Yoko, who lived at the Dakota for 20 years after Lennon’s death, saw the spirit of the musical genius sitting at his piano. Lennon turned to Yoko and said “Don’t be afraid. I am still with you,” before vanishing.
John's spectral spirit has been witnessed roaming the property by various folks, for he dearly loved the Dakota.
Chicago History (SMC Carthage Company) Building in Chicago, Illinois
Haunted Chicago History Building
In February 1929, Al Capone ordered a hit that would take the lives of seven rival gangsters in what would soon be called Chicago's Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre.
Today, people walking down Clark Street have heard the sound of machine gun fire and the unmistakable screams of those slaughtered. Others have felt a heavy feeling of dread as they pass the intersection of Clark and Dickens, the spot where Bugs Moran’s men were gunned down.
The Oman House in Beverly Hills, California
What makes this property intensely haunted? Could it be that the house is steps away from the site of the notorious Charles Manson's Family murders of actress Sharon Tate and her friends on August 8th, 1969? The house sits in Beverly Hills, just north of the famous private drive from the murder site!
The Oman House is reputed to be "The Mount Everest of Haunted Houses" and even, according to Dr. Barry Taff, "The Disneyland for the Dead." Although a renowned parapsychologist with more than 4,000 credited investigation to his name, Dr. Taff, has refused to return to the Oman House after spending some time collecting and documenting its paranormal activity.
