Carnton Plantation

Franklin, Tennessee

Carnton Plantation

On November 30, 1864, the Carnton Plantation witnessed and was an integral part of the Battle of Franklin during the Civil war. This was certainly one of the most devastating battles for the south. It served to receive the carnage of the dead and wounded. Most of the over 1,750 Confederate dead were buried on the property, making it the largest Confederate graveyard in the south. The historical devastation endured by this property has earned its wings in being one of the most haunted in Tennessee, perhaps the South. In fact, many claim that you can actually see the soldiers walking the fields. An interesting consistency of the haunts is their preference for the autumn months. At dusk, it is likely you will see the ghost of a woman floating on the back porch. Perhaps you will catch the spirits of the fallen soldiers, which are common manifestations. Another ghost is that of an officer, said to pace the expansive front porch during the tired autumn months. Others have reported seeing one of the five generals riding a horse through the fields of the mansion.

Prospect Hill Bed & Breakfast

Mountain City, Tennessee

Prospect Hill Bed and Breakfast

This lovely Victorian was constructed in 1889 by Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Wagner using hand-made brick. Joseph was a major in the Union Army during the Civil War, which explains much the activity experienced here. This inn has all the ghostly elements that resonate a love for history and it's house. The spirits that are part of this beautiful bed and breakfast, are friendly and kind, and very welcomed by the inn's owners.  They almost take part in the warm hospitality that is provided by the innkeepers.  Expect to inhale the aroma of fresh muffins, peanut butter, and cookies, with none of these found in the kitchen. You may also find yourself smelling rose perfume, and cigar smoke is reported frequently throughout the inn. Many have witnessed full-body apparitions of a young woman, that always appears to be busy doing tasks. Other reports include full apparitions of men appearing in old fashioned or old military clothing, including one of a Civil War soldier staring out of the window.  For light sleepers, expect to be awakened by the sound of children giggling and playing in their room.

Ruby Falls Haunted Caverns

Chattanooga, Tennessee

Haunted Ruby Falls

Ruby Falls Cave, unlike Lookout Mountain Cave, had no natural openings and could not be entered until the 20th century. This alone makes them spectacular. A chemist and explorer, Leo Lambert discovered the formerly hidden Ruby Falls Cave and its waterfall. On his next trip to visit the cave, Lambert took his wife Ruby and told her that he would name the falls after her. On September 2014 Ruby Falls was proclaimed an official haunted location after a series of thorough and expansive paranormal investigations was held at the site. It is believed there are at least 5 entities, all which have shown themselves as full apparitions. t is believed one of the spirits that roam these caves is the original cave proprietor, Leo Lamber, and his wife Ruby. It is also believed that there is the phantom of a night watchman who fell to his death down an elevator shaft in the 1970s. He makes his presence known with a smell of sugar cookies, which his wife used to pack in his lunch every day.
