Mysterious Adventures Tours' COVID-19 Travel Policies

IMPORTANT UPDATE: As of 2/1/21 ALL INTERNATIONAL TOURS ARE POSTPONED  to new 2022 dates, due to escalated international tourism standards that will impede tour access, quality, experience, and cost. 

Impact and Influences

We have a commitment. 

Mysterious Adventures Tours wishes to assure the complete satisfaction, well-being, and safety of our guests, guides, and community. This is our highest priority.

We ask for your patience.

Given the fluidity of global events, we recommend guests not make a decision until 60 days prior to the confirmed travel start date. An exchange or refund request of any booking scheduled prior to 60 days from travel will be considered at Mysterious Adventures Tour’s discretion in accordance with the policies written below.

We have these policies so that we can adhere to the strictest safety terms for all tours. Just as importantly, we also have leveraged any financial risk/fear that may result from planning ahead for your dream vacation.

With this sentiment, we present three important strategies we have put into effect so that offer safety, responsibility, trust, and fairness to our guests, staff, and hospitality vendors. These are:

SAFETY: Safety measures and policies to be used prior, during, and after our tours.

POLICIES: New “COVID-19 Booking Ease” Policies, positioning a commitment to establishing trust and fairness with our customers.

RESOURCES: Recommended reputable authorities of best practices, public health standards, and civic regulations that affect travel.

Our Safety Measures and Policies


COVID Safety Precautions

Our policies for precautions against cross-contamination of COVID-19 have been carefully selected based on recommended standards per local/national/international healthcare governance (i.e. CDC and WHO), as well as civic governance. Like all policies, they are subject to change per regulatory bodies.

In addition, the owner of Mysterious Adventures Tours, Maria Schmidt, is a Registered Nurse (with an active State of Ohio License). She is expected to accompany all tours in 2021. With that, she will employ continuous clinical judgment and counsel with any concerns. In addition, she will assure that standards and actions to minimize cross-contamination activities are engaged.

CDC Recommendations


The following standards will be utilized: 

  • Cross-connection with each other will be minimized to the extent possible without imposing on the quality of the tour. We will still meet and greet you at the airport, and escort you back to the airport when our tour ends.

    All documentation and travel journals/manuscripts will be sent to guests electronically unless hard copies are specifically requested. These will be handled with utmost care to cleanliness standards.

  • We will apply a determination for well-being with all our staff and guests using clinical assessments, observation, and reports.

    We reserve the right to exclude anyone (staff or guests) who is not well prior to departure or during the tour. These include symptoms of fever, cough, chills, loss of taste/smell, difficulty breathing, chest pain, abdominal pain, or other unexplained presentations.

  • If deemed required or recommended by local authorities, our staff and guests will wear a mask while inside closed quarters or in our buses.

  • Social Distancing: This is a private charter, one group at one time. We only provide services for one small group of people (our guests and staff) that know each other and remain together for the most part of our trip.

    We will adhere to regulations of space requirements and limited passengers as said by local authorities.

    The decision to socially distance within your group is up to you – we are happy to discuss your needs and preferences around social distancing ahead of your journey to best accommodate your expectations.

  • We will accommodate your hygienic needs.  Sanitizing hand gels will be offered to guests each time they return to the vehicle. It will also be available upon request. 

  • Interaction with staff and service suppliers: Our Coaches will be following stringent local regulations, our coaches are required to have (and will undergo) a deep cleaning every night between our journeys. This includes wiping down of all seats and other handled surfaces with disinfectant. In addition, our staff will wash and sanitize their hands before handling your luggage. When returning their luggage to you, the handles will also be cleaned.

  • Interaction with staff and service suppliers: Hotels/Restaurants/Venues
    We will only select and occupy hotels, inns, venues that utilize current required regulations to minimize cross contaminations.

  • Beverages and snacks will also be available on the bus after prepared with sanitation protocols. Your gift bags will also endure this process to assure safety.

  • All guests will be offered the option of having their luggage treated with disinfectant both on arrival at the lodge and once again after it has been dropped off in the guests’ rooms.

  • In case of the need for contact-tracing, we require our guests and staff with us to be able to contact all other members of the group.

Our “COVID-19 Booking Ease” Policies

COVID Booking Policies

Our policies during 2021 and 1st half of June 2022 will replace our standard organization’s policies because we must consider the burden that conditions (far from our shared control or influence) may impose on the quality or cost of the trip. These policies will expire on June 30, 2022, but will be re-evaluated for extension per travel pandemic conditions at that time.

Purchasing Protection

There is no doubt that the fiscal perils and risks during this pandemic are significant. Electing to cancel a booking based on the current level of uncertainty is understandable but our advice to guests is not to do so immediately. Our third-party partners may elect to impose either normal terms and conditions or costs incurred prior to the onset of the force majeure event. This may result in any deposits or monies paid to be unrecoverable.

Mysterious Adventures Tours LLC prides itself in having one of the most accomodating and fair COVID-19 travel policies in the industry. That being said, we need you to take part. We highly recommend that guests purchase our recommended comprehensive travel insurance. Consider adding the “cancel for any reason” supplement (where still available) to ensure any funds lost could be recovered.

IMPORTANT:  If we end up suspending the entire trip, you will not lose your insurance if you accept a new date (or switch to another trip).

We will be sending information out to help you make this important decision. In addition, our Insurance vendor’s customer service representatives are available to answer any questions or offer clarity in making a good decision.



Our Hard Stop Decision Date:

Where the same global conditions (varying worldwide travel restrictions) exist 60 days prior to the start date of the itinerary, then guests may consider postponing their bookings up to a year after the original travel date and carry forward 100% of the booking’s value to the future booking (as per our Covid-19 terms and conditions).

Please read the Exchange/Cancellation options below.

Notifications should be sent to Mysterious Adventures Tours LLC in writing of the intent to postpone or cancel between 10 and 50 days. After ten days, no refunds will be distributed and exchange value is limited to 30% of the original investment. See chart below.


  • Since we are a small business, we ask you to consider an Exchange as the best outcome to ensure monies paid are retained for future use. We have created a policy that will make this a win-win for both you, as the guest, and ourselves.

  • In 2021, prior to 30 days from the Tour start date, no exchange fee will be invoked. You can apply 100% of your payments toward the tour of your choice if spots are available. After 30 days, the value of your exchange will decrease. (See chart below.)

  • Be aware there may be price differences that will adjust your remaining payments.)

  • In addition, prior to 30 days of the start tour date, you will receive a $100 bonus credit towards the new trip as our thank you for opting for a tour exchange. This credit will only be valid towards a trip that has not been canceled.

  • If you elect to remain on the same trip (which will be postponed approximately one year from the original date) the price of the tour (including any credits from us) will be frozen and will not incur the expected 2021 price increase.


  • With a Company-Wide Cancellation: 

    Entire Trip Postponement/Cancellation Policy by MAT: 60 days out from any 2021 tour, a decision will be made whether to postpone the trip or not. At this time, it will be safe to book airline travel.

    Reasons why the trip will be postponed: This may be due to COVID19 regulations that are not practical (i.e. quarantine restrictions, port entry/departure difficulty, etc.). It could also be that the trip has not met their minimal attendance requirement.

    Trips will not be generally be canceled and not canceled. New dates will be selected by MAT and consented to by the Ambassador.  At this time, you will be offered two options: Exchange or Cancellation. (See policies below.)

    If you did not purchase CFAR Travel Insurance, you will be refunded 100% of your payments. If you did purchase CFAR Travel Insurance, you will be refunded the amount not covered by your insurance claim (which is usually 25% of your payments).

    Because this is our cancellation that affects the entire tour, you will not be charged a service fee. 

  • With an individually requested Cancellation:

    We understand that your intent is probably not to want to cancel your trip. We don't either! Unfortunately, you may be considering going in this direction.

    Please realize that we, as a small tour company, your Ambassador will be impacted by cancellations.  Remember, your reservation with our service vendors have been made on your behalf and may impose penalties and fees. This is the reason we must apply service fees for cancellations.  

    To help with this burden, on a timely basis, our COVID19 Penalties Policies have been eased from our standard chronological scale. As an alternative, we ask you to consider purchasing Travel Insurance with CFAR options. An appeal may be requested for exception and will be considered under specific situations.

    In addition, we strongly urge you to re-consider exchanging your trip for another.

Cancelation / Exchange Policy
Should an Exchange be requested and then you chose to Cancel later, Mysterious Adventures Tours LLC will assess the cancellation restrictions against the original dates and revised dates of all services owned included in the booking. The stricter of the two policies will apply.

  • Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)

    STEP is a free service provided by the U.S. Department of State to allow U.S. citizens and nationals traveling and living abroad to enroll in their trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

    We absolutely recommend you sign up for this program. It is automated and will help you be in control of your travel plans. When they ask where you will be staying, plug in any hotel in your traveling city, just to get bypassed the process. Before you leave, we will provide the information of a primary hotel you will be staying in.

    Here you will receive important information from the Embassy about safety conditions in your destination country, helping you make informed decisions about your travel plans. It will also allow the U.S. Embassy to contact you in an emergency, whether natural disaster, civil unrest, or family emergency. It will also allow your family and friends to get in touch with you in an emergency.

Mysterious Adventures Tours’ COVID19 Disclaimer of Liability

When traveling with Mysterious Adventures Tours LLC your safety is of paramount importance to us. We have implemented various COVID-19 related safety measures, processes, and procedures at our selected accommodations, coaches, eateries, and other venues. This will ensure we create an environment that is both safe and hygienic when you stay with us.

Protocols were developed by taking guidance from guidelines and hygiene policies prescribed and published by the World Health Organization, the Center for Disease Control, and the National Institute for Health, and all the relevant health authorities of the destinations we operate in.

Your itinerary includes accommodation services at properties and/or ancillary services such as transfers, tours, and activities that will not be directly provided by Mysterious Adventures Tours but by independent third-party owners and/or operators that are not owned and/or managed by our organization. All these third-party providers of Mysterious Adventures Tours LLC have committed to implement similar processes and procedures as identified in this policy.

Mysterious Adventures Tours is not in a position to validate or dictate their health and safety protocols which will vary between Third Party Service Providers. As a result, we cannot confirm the standard to which Third Party Service Providers protocols adhere to and as such we cannot accept any form of liability (in the broadest terms) should you (or any member of your party) contract an infectious disease (including COVID-19) when using the services of a Third Party Service Provider.

The same will apply in respect of public areas (i.e. landmarks, public venues, sightseeing venues, etc.) which you may wish to visit. Mysterious Adventures Tours LLC nor Third Party Service Providers have any control over health and safety protocols followed at public areas or any action(s) of a member of the public which may cause an infection of an infectious disease.

As with any protocol the measure of success in implementing a process or procedure under a protocol will be determined by the level of compliance and adherence to the relevant processes and procedures prescribed by the relevant protocol. Whilst Mysterious Adventures Tours will ensure full compliance by its management, employees, and contractors with the Infectious Disease: Health and Safety Protocol.

Mysterious Adventures Tours LLC cannot accept any liability in the event of a guest(s) contracting an infectious disease (including COVID-19) as a direct or indirect result of complying or adhering to our stated Infectious safety protocol.
