Idaho Springs, CO is home to one of the most haunted places the world, Phoenix Gold Mine (via Idaho Springs Visitors Center). Come Explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.
The Phoenix Gold Mine is actually in Idaho Springs. Colorado, that is. A little confusing, but haunted enough to entice the cast and crew of Ghost Adventures there to film an episode in 2016. The hauntings stem from a brutal murder that occurred in the mines. But this wasn’t just any murder. As the team from Ghost Adventures went deeper and deeper into the mine, the more eerie the atmosphere became. Zak Bagans and his cohorts began to realize that they had come in contact with a tiny, mischievous spirit known as a Tommyknocker. Western American legend describes these beings as about two feet tall, often greenish in color, and often in traditional miners clothing. Often thought of as pranksters, their existence also is now believed to have a beneficial twist. Many now believe that when these spirits “knock”, it is actually as a warning to living miners that danger is ahead. Miners have been known to leave offerings for Tommyknockers to thank them for protection.
