Ashmore, IL is home to one of the most haunted places in the state, Ashmore Estates. Come Explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.
The Ashmore Estates in Ashmore, Illinois has gained national status as one of America’s most haunted locations. Many places have been featured on nationally acclaimed paranormal TV shows, but it’s a rare feat to be showcased on the two most successful shows. Ghost Adventures did an episode here in their fifth season, and Ghost Hunters featured this venue in their ninth season.
The historic property, built in 1916, was originally used as an almshouse (sometimes called a poor farm). It continued to operate until it was purchased in 1959 for use as a private psychiatric care center. This facility was closed down in 1986, and again reopened in 2006 as a place for paranormal seekers and ghost hunters to come and try out their skills. It is reportedly haunted by many ghosts, including Elva Skinner, a woman who died in a fire in the former almshouse.
