History

Charleston, SC is home to one of the most haunted eateries in the state, Poogan's Porch Come explore its menu and other offerings with Haunted Journeys.

The History

Poogan's Porch was originally a spacious home, erected in 1891. By 1976, the neighborhood had changed suitably to allow for the conversion of the house into a restaurant. The last residential owners of the site sold their home and moved away, leaving behind the neighborhood dog that they had grown so accustomed to caring for over the years. The establishment was named as a memorial pledge to the dog. He oversaw the renovations to the building when it became a restaurant and even greeted the patrons.

The Hauntings

A woman dressed in black appears to the centerpiece of the haunted stories from this establishment. She has been witnessed hanging around the restaurant and the grounds. She has been spotted upstairs, where she knocked on an occupied bathroom door repeatedly. When the guest exited the bathroom, she watched as the lady in black faded away before her eyes. Another sighting involved one of the restaurant's workers. As she entered the kitchen, she found a woman dressed all in black, kneading dough. Upon telling her she shouldn't be there, the ghostly entity disappeared in front of his eyes.

Once a neighbor who saw a shadowy figure all in black banging on a window of the restaurant. The neighbor reached for her phone and when she turned back, the figure was gone. Many have seen her at the second-floor window waving from an unoccupied building. She is thought to be Zoe St. Armand who owned the house in the early 1900s.
