Silverton, CO is home to one of the most haunted places in the state, Grand Imperial Hotel & Restaurant. Come Explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.
The Grand Hotel, formerly known as the Thomson Block, was built in 1882 by W.S. Thomson, a perfume importer and mill owner. Completed in 1883, in just under ten months, it became known as the largest single standing structure south of Denver.
The Grand Hotel became the pinnacle of luxury in the Southwest. It played a critical role in the boomtown years. The entire second floor was the base of operations for the Town of Silverton and San Juan County, serving as the official town and county seat. The first floor was the home to the post office, bank, Bureau of Mines, general store, doctor's office and the newspaper. The town changed when mine production waned and so did the Hotel.
The Victorian era building was sold and was renamed the Imperial Hotel until it changed hands in 1951. After an extensive restoration, the Hotel reopened its doors to the public under its current name, the Grand Imperial Hotel.
The spirit is called Dr. Luigi. He is known to make noise on the second floor, and one reports says guests have seen his apparition in the lobby.
