Glasgow is home to one of the most haunted places in Scotland, Scotia Pub. Come Explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.
Founded in 1792 and immersed in history, the Scotia Pub, it is proclaimed to be Glasgow’s oldest drinking establishment. It is proudly standing on one of the city's first-ever streets. It played host to the merchant sailors bringing goods to Glasgow. The bar was founded when the Clyde was a thriving waterway, close to the final ferry stage on the river. The bar, which retains many original interior features, remains a popular destination for a nightcap after a long day’s work. It has become the local haunt for Glasgow's musicians, actors, poets, and political groups.
Considering its history, there is no surprise that there are many phantoms that haunt this drinking well!
An apparition that is often seen is said to belong to a manager who hanged himself in the cellar. A paranormal investigation team, called Spirit Finders, in 2007 completed a ghost hunt. Shania, their team psychic medium, was able to relate the story of the cellar hanging without any supposed prior knowledge of the bar's history. This poor soul is accompanied by a former prostitute, whom many call "Annie". Apparently, she enjoys moving a glass with her invisible fingers and makes the phone ring.
There is also the ghost of a landlady and an ex-bar maid, whom many call the "Green Lady". The pub’s manager has reported ghostly sightings of her dressed in green velvet who likes to parade up and down the pub. He has also seen a lady in a white wimple who is shyer and prefers to sit in the snug.
And of course, it wouldn’t be a classic haunting without the ghost of a young boy, described to be about nine or ten years old and although not actually aged to drink, the young specter said to be the son of a former owner apparently likes to spend his time at the bar. You can usually find him playing in a doorway.
Manager Mary Rafferty said, “There have been phones ringing, temperatures dropping and all sorts of strange goings-on.”
