Rehoboth Beach, DE is home to one of the most haunted places in the state, Crabby Dick's Restaurant. Come Explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.
Constructed back in 1830, the original Delaware City Hotel was a popular tavern that hosted all types of folks, including many of the soldiers that were stationed at the nearby Fort Delaware. Here they would spend their off-hours drinking, probably attempting to forget what they saw or what they did. It changed over to become the Sterling Hotel.
Today, the hotel has become Buchheit's and Slotter's Crabby Dick's Restaurant on the first floor. But the ghosts have never left.
It is not certain if the hauntings dribble down from the old Sterling Hotel, or whether Crabby's Dick restaurant is what brings them. Regardless, they are there! Witnesses can attest to the hauntings, and several paranormal investigations have backed up the claims. The current owner says spooky things are still happening. The story has it that the ghost of the original owner's wife occasionally appears -- but reveals herself only to men.
In a 2012 interview with The News Journal, John Buchheit III said the first night he slept there (when it was the Sterling Hotel), he dreamed a chambermaid named Sandy visited him and told him to get out. "I didn't believe in ghosts, but since I moved to Delaware City, I believe," he said. The dream became a reality, for Sandy, a previous chambermaid has been witnessed by many others!
Expect to hear unexplained loud noises coming from all areas of the old building. Doors will suddenly open and close ... on their own! You may join hundreds of guests that have captured startling orbs on photographs.
