Alburquerque, NM is home to one of the most haunted places in the state, The Hotel Parq Central. Come Explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.

The History

This is not just your everyday haunted hotel. Before the transition to these luxurious accommodations, the original building, built in 1926 was the Santa Fe Hospital serving the railroad employees. In the 1940s its name was changed to the AT & SF Hospital. Later in the 1980s, it was purchased by a group of psychiatrists and renamed the Memorial Hospital, where for three decades it served as a mental health hospital for children and young adults. In 2010, a $21 million transition occurred, becoming the esteemed and highly decorated Hotel Parq Central.

The Hauntings

Even when it served as a hospital, the patients were stirred and frighted by the haunted at that time! Some of the claims back then was a female apparition that appeared to them on the top floor's right-wing. They also were challenged by their bedsheets pulled off them in the middle of the night by unknown and invisible hands. Staff also heard disembodied whispers into their ears, seeing objects move without explanation and a general sense of being watched and heaviness throughout the hospital buildings.

The impact was so horrific, that many of the patients, upon discharge from the hospital, continued to have nightmares about the hospital haunting them for a long time.

Today, visitors often have the feeling of being watched, too. A group of paranormal investigators had extensive evidence gathered by digital recordings of their voices. They also communicated with the spirit of a former patient using a flashlight. Within the new hotel structure, some have witnessed the apparition of a woman that dances around on the third-floor wing. Could this be the same specter witnessed by the staff and patients in the former hospital? Guests have reported the same heaviness as felt for decades. Some even have heard unexplained shuffling and whispers while in the safety of their beds. The stairwells are hot spots too, hearing shuffling up and down the stairs with whispers of voices when there was no living person present.

Some of the staff agree that spirits still linger. The manager of their rooftop bar (The Apothecary Lounge) admits spookiness is still ignited here. She represents the history, in a closely connected sad way. Her great grandfather died on the property, falling from the roof during its original construction in the 1920s. She also revealed that there have been many suicides by hanging that have occurred in the building.
