Avalon, CA is home to one of the most haunted places in the state, Banning House Lodge. Come Explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.
By 1864, James Lick owned all of Catalina Island. After he failed at developing a resort on the island, he sold it to the Banning Brothers in 1891. They established the Santa Catalina Island Company in 1894 and began developing the island into a resort destination, building hotels, attractions, and roads into the island's rugged interior. The Banning brothers built hunting lodges, like the Banning House Lodge, and ran stagecoach tours around the island. Banning House Lodge was built in 1910 and is a Craftsman style home that served as their Island summer home. They sold the island to William Wrigley Jr. in 1919.
During WWII, it was used as a US Coast Guard barracks and even as a girl's camp in the 1950s.
Now it's a rustic and comfortable 12 room lodge perched on a hill with beautiful views of Two Harbors.
People report seeing a ghostly figure they call "White Lady". There is also the fisherman ghost. Many say he makes his presence known by the smells of smoke and fish. They say he likes to hang around the employee bathroom and the kitchen. Natalie Woods drowned near by and some claim to have seen her in the area.
