History

Central Lake MI is home to one of the most haunted places in the state, The Blue Pelican Inn and Restaurant. Come explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.

The History

The Blue Pelican Inn is a beautiful restaurant in the Northern Michigan’s Chain of Lakes region. The Inn and restaurant changed owners and names several times in its history the lastest in 2008 when the current owners purchased it. There was a major renovation and it re-opened in May of 2009.

There are three associated stories that may explain all the haunted activity. The first is of Mrs. Gill, who once managed the property back in the ’20s and ’30s. Later, in the 1950s, she came back to her nest stay until she passed away in one of the rooms.

There is also the story of a young woman who climbed out of the second floor while attempting to elope. Unfortunately, she took a different type of trip and fell to her death.  The third story wraps around the time when the building was used as a temporary school when the original Central Lake School burned down.

The Hauntings

From these stories, come many haunted tales.

Upon purchasing the property, Corbett, the current owner investigated some of the histories of the hauntings reported by former employees, owners, guests, and the community.

Much of the revelation of evidence came from stories, but most were realized especially during the renovation by the current owner. Many unexplained noises of muffled sounds, banging and light scratching was heard. None could be explained as sounds from an old building. There also have been full apparitions reported, specifically in the linen closet.

Don't look away too fast from staring at the dormer windows from the street. There may be a chance that you will spot a little girl still holding on to her treasured school books. Is she waiting for school to start?

The property has been visited by paranormals, ghostbusters, and investigation groups who are looking for paranormal happenings over the years.
