History

St. Augustine FL is home to one of the most haunted places in the state, Casa de Solana Bed and Breakfast. Come Explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.

THE HISTORY

Don Manuel Lorenzo Solana built the residence in 1763, of a concrete made of burnt oyster shell lime, sand, ash, water and additional broken oyster shells. He married Mary Mitchell and had two children, but the couple’s marriage was still not recognized by the Catholic Church, and eventually dissipated.

Solana then took a second wife and they had 11 children. Even then, the house was like a B&B, as the couple often offered hospitality to Native Americans, injured soldiers, and almost any traveler who needed a place to rest.

THE HAUNTINGS

Guests and staff report hearing whispers, doors opening, being touched and hearing footsteps in different parts of the inn.

A woman dressed in white appears and giggles are sometimes heard in the Montejurra Room.

Other reported phenomena include a Spanish Dragoon, who appears at the entrance or in the courtyard as he watches over the inn and its guests. He guarded the Casa in the 1800s and was shot in the back with an arrow while protecting the home.
