Ballygalley, Larne, Ireland, UK is home to one of the most haunted places in the provinces, Ballygally Castle Hotel. Come Explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.
James Shaw and his wife Isabella Brisbane built the castle in 1625. Protestants took refuge at the castle during the Civil Wars. It was passed down from father to son until the 1800s when it was sold to the Agnew family. It was a coastguard station for several years and then Reverend Classon Porter and his family lived there. In the early 1950s, the owner turned it into a hotel.
The most told ghost story belongs to Lady Isabella Shaw. The legend says that Lord Shaw wanted a son and after his wife had a baby boy, he locked her in a room at the top of the castle. When she tried to escape, she fell to her death from the tower window. Another story is that she was thrown from the window by Lord Shaw. It is reported that her ghost walks the corridors of the old castle. You can visit her room in the tower (now called the Ghost Room), but no one is allowed to stay there anymore. Visitors to the castle have reported unexplained noises, someone knocking on their door at night and no one is there, the sounds of a dress rustling in the hallway, an eerie green mist over the castle and even feeling a presence in their rooms.
