Asheville, NC is home to one of the most haunted eateries in the state, Ashley's of Rockledge. Come explore its menu and other offerings with Haunted Journeys.
Ashley's Restaurant was originally named Jack's Tavern when it opened in 1933. In 1934 Ethel Allen was murdered and dumped in a nearby river. She was a frequent patron of Jack's Tavern, and it was one of the last places she was seen.
It has exchanged hands a few times over the years and has been called Cooney's Tavern, the Mad Duchess, the Loose Caboose, Sparrow Hawk, and Gentleman Jim's. It became Ashley's Restaurant in 1985.
Much of the activity is in the ladies' restroom and many believe it is Ethel Allen. One employee has seen the feet of a woman dressed in 1930's era footwear in the next stall, only to find it empty. People also reported apparitions of a young woman in the bathroom mirror.
Patrons have the feeling of being pushed when going up or down the stairs. Lights have been seen turning on and off during the night; alarms go off unexplainably, glasses and dishes fall and break for no reason. Employees hear whispering in the Restaurant after closing and find objects have been moved when opening the next morning.
