History

Monticello FL is home to one of the most haunted places in the state, Avera-Clarke House Bed & Breakfast. Come explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.

The History

Judge Thomas Clarke, a civil war veteran, built the Avera-Clarke House in 1890. Clarke moved to Monticello in the late 1800s after studying law. The Cottage, thought to be the oldest structure in the county, was moved here in 2006 and restored. The "Greenhouse" was scheduled for demolition before it was moved to this property and restored.

The Hauntings

Monticello is considered the "Most Haunted Small Town in America" because of all the paranormal activity in the area. They said that Judge Thomas Clarke is still at his old residence, even if just in spirit.
