Albuquerque NM is home to one of the most haunted places in the state, Bottger Mansion of Old Town. Come explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.

Charles Bottger was born in New York City and arrived in Albuquerque around 1893. He acquired the Bottger property and about 1909, the original house was demolished to make way for the new Bottger Mansion.

The mansion had all the modern amenities, gaslighting, speaking tubes to all the rooms, tin ceilings and a dumbwaiter to the upper floor. The Bottger Mansion was known as the "Pride of Old Town." After Charles died, Miguela, his widow, started taking in boarders.

There is a story that Machine Gun Kelly, his girlfriend, and his gang checked into the Bottger under assumed names. After several days the employees became suspicious and notified the police, but a gang member overheard the discussion and they left before the police arrived. A young Elvis Presley performed two shows in Albuquerque in 1956 and stayed at the Bottger. In the late '50s, a prominent family rented the Bottger for a large wedding and Frank Sinatra was a guest and performed at the reception.

They say that there are four spirits at the Bottger Mansion, Charles Bottger, perhaps he's keeping watch over his former home. A woman and a grandmotherly figure are heard and seen and there is someone else who is known to get in bed with women that are asleep.
