It is part of the site of the Battle of Brandywine fought on September 11, 1777, during the American Revolution. The park covers 50 acres, which served primarily as the Continental encampment the two days before the battle. The battle was a victory for the British, allowing them to march into Philadelphia. Brandywine Battlefield Park became a Pennsylvania State Park in 1949 and a National History Landmark in 1961. Over 2000 men died during the battle.
Visitors report that you can hear the battle and see apparitions of soldiers, both American and Hessian, mostly at night.
