History

Chicago, IL is home to one of the most haunted places in the state, the site of the Chicago History Building (SMC Cartage Company). Come Explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.

THE HISTORY

The garage at 2122 N. Clark St. in Lincoln Park was a garage for the SMC Cartage Company. On the morning of Valentine's Day, 1929, it became one of the most notorious sites in America. On orders from Al Capone, seven members of Bugs Moran's gang were lined up and Bugs gunned down.

By 1949 it was turned into an antique furniture storage business.

In 1967, after the building was demolished, 414 bricks where the shooting took place were sold to the highest bidders. Those bricks are now on display at the Mob Museum in Las Vegas.

Today the site is a parking lot.

THE HAUNTINGS

People walking down Clark street have heard the sound of machine-gun fire and screams. Others have felt a feeling of dread as they pass the spot where Bugs Moran's men were gunned down. It is also believed that the ghost of a German Sheppard who belonged to a murdered Irish mob member still mourns its owner's death.
