History

Kansas City, MO is home to one of the most haunted places in the state, Epperson House. Come explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.

THE HISTORY

This beautiful structure was completed in 1923 by Uriah Spray Epperson. Mr. Epperson died only four years later in 1927. Epperson's adopted daughter, Harriett Evelyn Barse, died a couple of years after the house was built at the age of 47 of a perforated gall bladder. Harriett had designed the custom organ for their 48-foot living room. Eventually. Mr. Epperson's widow donated the property and it is now part of the University of Missouri, Kansas City.

THE HAUNTINGS

The building is well known for paranormal activity and has many secret passageways and tunnels. Many people, including students and security guards, have reported seeing Harriett's ghost. She's wearing an evening gown that one might wear to a recital. Reports have included seeing Harriett accompanied by strange lights and unexplained organ music. Another time security guards saw what they believe was a partial apparition of Mr. Epperson himself in a hallway.

It has been featured on TV's Unsolved Mysteries as one of America's top five haunted places.
