Atlantic City, NJ is home to one of the most haunted places the state, Absecon Lighthouse Come explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.
The Absecon Lighthouse was built as a response to a Powhatan shipwreck that killed 311 people in 1854, nicknaming the presiding Abescon Inlet the Graveyard Inlet. It continued functioning as a lighthouse until 1933, and now stands restored. The Abescon Lighthouse has had reports of apparitions and other paranormal activity since 1905, when a keeper saw the Jersey Devil at the top of the tower. Others witnesses have reported apparitions, the aromas of pipe and cigar smoke, disembodied sounds of haunted laughter, footsteps in the tower and the tower door opening and closing on its own. As well, dimes are said to appear in odd places. This property was featured on an episode of Ghost Hunters.
