History

Sardis, AL is home to one of the most haunted places in the state, Adams Grove Presbyterian Church & Cemetery. Come explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.

The History

Adams Grove Presbyterian Church was built in 1853 in a historic Greek Revival style. The adjoining cemetery was established five years before the church was built. The church's last service was held in 1974. This is one of the few pre-Civil War churches left still standing in the area. It has remained intact, from its windows to its walls, everything about its architecture is original. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The Hauntings

This property's deep historical chapters present the intensity of its haunts.  You may likely meet up with a shadowy man with fiery red eyes inside the church and the cemetery.

Many people have also reported seeing the phantom of a Confederate soldier sternly ordering trespassers to go away if they enter the cemetery. In addition, many folks have spotted the spectral image of a former minister inside the church, usually right before a major thunderstorm.  You may also hear the sounds of a crying baby inside the church.
