History

Monticello FL is home to one of the most haunted places in the state, Daffodale House. Come Explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.

The History

Construction began in 1897 on this Victorian Beauty, completing in 1904. The first owner is said to have been a rich banker and politician who had wanted a house befitting his position in the community. Later on, the house has been embellished by the owners that followed, including Northern industrialists and wealthy southern planters that commissioned the home.  Since 2006, the current owners, the Ebberbachs, have re-created a painted lady B & B offering three themed rooms.

The nostalgia-filled B&B is also comprised of a small entry music room, an antique store, the grand dining hall, the library and Victorian Tea room and is set on 3 acres of gorgeous grounds

The Hauntings

The Daffodale House Estate Bed & Breakfast is a unique accommodation nestled in the heart of Historic Monticello Florida, one of the state's most haunted cities. The Daffodale House is no exception. The presence of its phantoms were first detected when the current owners, The Ebberbachs, started renovations. According to them, strange music is heard from the Safari room. Aromas of pipe smoke are often noted in the air near the elevator.

In addition, a woman dressed in white is often seen on the premises. The lights in the front room turn on by themselves back on after they were turned off. Much of the paranormal activity in the house seems to center around the attic. On many occasions, the innkeepers have heard someone walking there.

Others who have explored this inn found the presence of a ghostly family with a young child. There's also a Civil War-era slave cemetery nearby, and an Indian mound said to date back more than 1,000 years. It is further believed that the former homeowner and his family members were attached to and loved this gracious home in their lifetime they have chosen to stay on in the afterlife.

The inn does offer ghost tours and other related paranormally-related events.
