History

Dry Ridge, KY is home to one of the most haunted places in the state, Historic Sherman Tavern. Come Explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.

THE HISTORY

The Historic Sherman Tavern, built circa 1820 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is a stagecoach inn and an excellent example of an early nineteenth-century tavern. The wood-frame structure is an unusual feature since frame construction is the exception rather than the rule for antebellum structures in Kentucky, where log construction predominated.

THE HAUNTINGS

Apparitions of Confederate soldiers, African American slaves and young children wandering around the building (and the adjoining property) have been spotted. Disembodied voices that appear to be shouting have been heard. Strange music, disembodied footsteps and doors which open and close by themselves have also been reported. This property was featured in the 2018's World's Largest Ghost Hunt (http://www.nationalghosthuntingday.com/.
