Manistee, MI is home to one of the most haunted places in the state, S.S. City of Milwaukee. Come Explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.
Built in 1931, the SS City of Milwaukee is a Great Lakes railroad car ferry that once plied Lake Michigan, often between Muskegon, Michigan and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As the only pre-1940s ship of this type to survive, she now serves as a museum ship, bed and breakfast and event venue on the waterfront of Manistee Lake in Manistee, Michigan. She was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1990. And, yes, she is very haunted.
Visitors have reported eerie noises, disembodied voices and footsteps and apparitions on the retired and historic car ferry SS City of Milwaukee. Sometimes unexplained floral aroma will be experienced. There is one small room that no one likes to go into, at least alone. It was previously used by a crew member who died there on a night many years ago. The ferry's first captain, Stormy Jack's phantom also lurks through the ship. He prefers the captain's stateroom . An apparition of a woman dressed in white also has been reported, apparently belonging to a gal that once fell overboard. No one really understands why ... could she be attempting to tell?
