In this 1830 Erie Canal building where mules were kept in the basement installs to work on the Erie Canal. This tenant house was always a rental property and is part of the Phelps Restoration Property. Travelers and workers of the Erie Canal frequent this old building stopping to chat with our visitors about their lives, experiences, and happenings during Canal life. There are 4 rooms on this first floor filled with Erie Canal artifacts and canal items as well as two dioramas, a 23-foot boat mural, and a sleeping cabin in the back.
