Alton, IL is home to one of the most haunted places in the state, Mineral Springs Hotel. Come Explore its mystery with Haunted Journeys.
Some believe the entire town is haunted. Nearly every structure is built from the rock that was from the former Illinois State Prison. One of the oldest and most historic buildings in Alton is the Mineral Springs Mall. It was built in 1914 as an ice house for a meatpacking business. The owners discovered a natural spring when drilling into the bedrock, which gave them the idea to build a hotel and spa. The hotel was famous for its “healing” spring water, large swimming pools and ballroom. It is now a shopping mall with a variety of shops.
Several spirits are said to still be in the building. There are stories of smelling a floral perfume; apparitions being seen, growls heard, disembodied voices and cries for help are just a small fraction of what guests have experienced and witnessed here.
